Name: Edward Thomas

Nicknames: Ed, Eddy

Age: 52
Born: 1839
Entered: 1858

Physical Age: 19

Height: 5'6" (168 cm)

Hair: Brown

Eyes: Blue

Faction: Insurgent
Edward wants to make as little ripple as possible, at least during the day. Sybal Heim was a way out from his previous situation and he doesn't want to go back. However, he views this new life as much of a cage as his previous one, with the additional concern that people like him (I.E. people with sybals that are aggressive and sadistic) would "disappear" from SH.

Occupation: Dollmaker
Although he primarily works with dolls, Edward also does other ceramic pieces and takes commissions. He keeps a shop by himself and has an oven for firing and bisque. His apartment is stationed directly over his shop.

Sybal Form: Porcelain Hound
Edward's Sybal form is roughly the size of a large dog (such as a Great Dane). Superficially, he appears to be a hound or jackal made of cracked porcelain, with doll eyes and jointed limbs. The porcelain is approximately half an inch thick, though it is thinner in places such as the tail and feet. This is merely a shell, which is regenerated every night. Inside of the porcelain is his "true" body, a mostly amorphous black mass that fills the interior completely. When parts of the porcelain shell fall off, this mass will show underneath. His "true" body cannot increase or decrease in mass.
When Edward has no shell left, the black mass will retain the eyes (though he can choose not to; this just results in a pair of empty sockets) and a gashed opening for his mouth. He tends to form four pseudopods to run on and will retain an approximate shape of his shell. Without his shell, Edward is considerably more agile and moves almost silently, but is much more vulnerable to attack. Without his shell, it doesn't take much to damage him. When he's hit with a sharp object, he bleeds a black, sticky substance the consistency of blood.

Sybal Power: Porcelain Shards
Although a shell of porcelain does not seem like it'd be an asset, Edward has turned it to his advantage. Any part of the porcelain shell he is wearing, he can alter. He can crack the porcelain and make shards to use as weapons, such as teeth, claws, and spikes. Over his stay, he has even learned how to make his tail into a multitude of thin slivers that he can whip off as projectiles, if he can move his tail fast enough. With enough effort, Edward can splinter the porcelain on his paws to make hands to manipulate with, but any changes are reverted upon the next night. Edward instinctively avoids damaging his "true" body with these shards.
If he chooses, he can leave his shell and enter another piece of porcelain (such as a doll) and control it with the mass put into it. However, he cannot compress his mass any and so whatever does not fit, spills out. When he does so, however, his shell is rendered inert (though, thankfully for him, does not fall apart). Manipulation of porcelain that is not his shell takes more effort than normal, and any changes he makes to the object will have obvious cracking or shards.
Edward has no control over unfired clay. The further a type of pottery is from the original composition of his shell, the more difficult it is for him to manipulate it. He can only control as much porcelain as he can fit in; for example, he could control several small dolls but he has to work with dividing his attention between all of them. If he was to expand his shell into a larger shape using external materials, however, he would be limited in how much of it he can work with - he'd literally be stretched thin trying to fill it.
As a consequence of these limitations, Edward has found it unsuitable to use his ability to augment his day job. During the day, if he had left the shell, the ceramic composing it will degrade and be unusable by the next nightfall, becoming dust by the next day.

Docile or Feral: Feral
During the day, Edward works very hard to conceal what he believes is his true self from the public. As a Sybal, he has no such compulsion. He acts with little regard for others or their safety. He takes a sadistic delight in causing pain of any type, though tries not to hurt the people he's friends with.

Personality: Edward tries to stay out of the way. He avoids conflict and tries to stay on people's good side, often trying to please people and avoid scrutiny. Underneath this facade, Edward is malevolent and a sociopath, working with only himself in mind.

History:

In 1858, England, Edward was an apprentice to a professional doll maker, a Master Bialystock. Often belittled by his boss (though perfectly capable of running the place himself, often doing so while the master was "entertaining" patrons) and doted upon by female clients for his youth and size, he was very unhappy with his lot in life. What Edward wanted was to leave! With limited skill outside of doll making, however, his prospects were slim for leaving his career and he still had 2 years left on his apprenticeship. He was going no where.

One day, Edward accidentally walked in on his master's business in the back room, promptly walked out, and left the shop to try to clear his mind of what he saw. He walked into the forest and ended up in Sybal Heim.

During his stay in Sybal Heim, Edward adjusted quickly to the new setting (having no wish to go back) and settled in as, once again, a doll maker, but running his own shop this time. Ceramic dolls were a novelty and so he found a fair amount of business making them for interested parties. He's made some friends, both savory and unsavory, and attempts to be pleasant to the majority of people he meets, particularly trying to keep his business professional for his customers. During the night, he would often head into the woods for his transformation, not wanting his Sybal form to ruin his daytime reputation.

Edward shares readily that he was a doll maker's assistant back in England but shares none of the unpleasant details of how he arrived here or how he was treated at his previous job.

Additional Info:
I have no idea how his power works with other people's materials. I've noticed two entries already that mention ceramic/porcelain and so I'm going to have to think of what the limitations are in regards to these. It may even be up to the moderators if we can't figure it out. I'd probably rule that if it's part of the Sybal's body, he can't control it - the ceramic has to be inert in some way - fighting for control is not something he's good at.

That smock nearly perpetually has clay on it. He only wears it while he's working.

His "true" body is kind of like silly putty in the way it works, but more vulnerable. It's basically like a water balloon (easy to puncture/rip/tear) so he spends most of his time in a shell if at all possible.

He cannot stretch his "true" body any thinner than a finger.
